In the fall of 2014, a vision was born on the campus of Allen University in downtown Columbia, South Carolina, one that would later grow into a lasting mission. Founded by Nyeem A. McDaniels, then a Social Science major with a concentration in Criminal Justice, Men of Definition emerged in response to a critical need to challenge and redefine the narratives and stigmas often associated with men who demonstrate positive character, leadership, and accountability.

Recognizing that the role of men within any community is to strengthen, uplift, and sustain it, not diminish it, Founder McDaniels envisioned an organization rooted in purpose, responsibility, and service. With a small but committed group of male students, an initial meeting was convened to articulate this vision. Those who answered the call embarked on a journey centered on personal growth, collective responsibility, and long-term community impact, a journey that has continued to evolve for nearly two decades.

Men of Definition, Incorporated is grounded in three core principles: Guidance, Leadership, and Community. These principles serve as the foundation for all organizational initiatives and decision-making. Through intentional programming focused on education, community service, and youth mentorship, the organization seeks to cultivate men who lead with integrity and contribute meaningfully to their communities. Without sustained investment in these areas, communities risk stagnation and decline, an outcome Men of Definition actively works to prevent.

While Men of Definition maintains a presence on multiple college and university campuses, it operates as a registered nonprofit organization with a mission that extends far beyond institutional boundaries. The organization is committed to inclusive community engagement, serving individuals of all backgrounds and ages through mentorship, leadership development, and civic involvement.

From its beginnings as a student-led vision to its current role as a growing nonprofit organization, Men of Definition, Inc. remains steadfast in its commitment to empowering men to define themselves by their character, their leadership, and their positive impact on the world around them.

Our Impact in the Community

With the support of donors and partners, Men of Definition, Inc. has proudly implemented initiatives such as:

• School Supply Drives
  Providing essential school supplies to local elementary schools to ensure students begin the academic year prepared and confident.

• Youth Mentorship
  Offering consistent mentorship in local elementary schools and throughout the community, supporting students academically, socially, and emotionally.

• Annual Men’s Empowerment Conference
  A signature program designed specifically for males, featuring:

  • Age-appropriate empowerment sessions

  • Guest speakers aligned with the mission and purpose of the conference’s theme

  • Interactive learning experiences that promote confidence, leadership, and positive decision-making

  • During this event, we also highlight an individual who exhibits all qualities of a “Man of Definition”, educational excellence, Civic Engagement, and mentorship

  The conference also includes a networking and community mixer, allowing speakers, facilitators, students, families, and community members to connect and build lasting relationships.

• Annual “Ms. M.O.D. Pageant”
  A purpose-driven pageant that cultivates respect, responsibility, and leadership among young men, while intentionally promoting honor, dignity, and healthy regard for women, including mothers, daughters, sisters, nieces, and community leaders.
  This initiative reinforces positive masculinity and accountability while celebrating excellence.
